On Saturday, September 7, 2024, the community of Pringle Bay came together to celebrate Arbour Day at the CBD Fynbos Garden. This event highlighted the importance of conservation and the unique biodiversity of the Fynbos biome.
Carel Laubscher, led the event. The CBD Fynbos Garden Project Team prepared Sites 2 and 3 for the event. Carel, followed by Mike Burns, engaged attendees in a discussion about the significance of Fynbos ecosystems and the critical need to identify and manage alien vegetation that threatens local flora. This educational component was focussed on the children, fostering a deeper understanding of their natural surroundings.
Following the discussions, children both young and old, eagerly participated in the planting activities, contributing to the growing beauty and significance of the garden. The event not only served as a platform for learning but also encouraged community involvement in environmental stewardship.
We would like to extended a special thank you to Lemon & Lime Deli for providing delicious fruit ice lollies, which were a hit among attendees, and to the Pringle Bay Supermarket for supplying refreshing cool drinks. These contributions helped create a festive atmosphere, making the day enjoyable for everyone involved.
Overall, the event was a successful blend of education, community spirit, and environmental action, reinforcing the importance of preserving the unique Fynbos ecosystem for future generations.
