Pringle Bay Mini Waste Drop-Off Clean Up Campaign

Bright and early on Monday morning (14 April 2025), Carel Laubscher and Nicci Maritz of the PBRA Conservation team, assisted by Charl van der Merwe (PBRA) and a handful of “old faithful” volunteers, began the gruelling task of clearing all the builder’s rubble that had been dumped over time at our mini waste drop-off.

In just two hours, about half a ton of rubble was collected. This included, among other things, broken bricks, pieces of concrete, water pipes, roof tiles, roof beams, various broken tiles and glass, a fence post cast in a very heavy block of concrete, a mound of garden refuse, and a bin full of other litter found in the surrounding fynbos. The area has been neatly raked, the grass around the guard hut has been cut, and the overall appearance of the site has been visibly improved.

Some of you may have already noticed that the guard hut door has also been repaired and re-varnished, making the hut safe and secure for Donovan, the Overstrand Municipality Attendant. This task was very kindly carried out by Betty’s Bay resident, Peter Hawkins.

The PBRA Conservation team would like to express their gratitude to all those who helped achieve this great result.

We kindly remind all builders, contractors, and residents that the mini waste drop-off is exclusively for household waste. Disposing of garden refuse and construction materials such as tiles, wood, glass, and rubble at this site is strictly prohibited.

This clean-up initiative is just one of many actions the PBRA is undertaking to improve overall waste management in Pringle Bay. We thank the community for their ongoing support in helping us protect and care for our shared environment.
