The Overstrand Municipality Mediation Survey: The PBRA is Voting “NO” to Mediation

04 October 2024

All Pringle Bay Ratepayers have been asked to vote on the possible appointment of a mediator to mediate between residents. This is not a PBRA initiative: we have, time and time again, supported the Overstrand Municipality’s Adaptive Baboon Management Plan (ABMP).

The PBRA urges you to exercise your opinion by voting.

The PBRA’s position on this vote is that the Overstrand Municipality (OM) poll is simply blurring the real issue; OM have already announced that they will discontinue this vital service. The PBRA believes that we need continued Baboon Management, not a poll, and certainly not a mediator. The very fact that the survey uses “Human/Baboon conflict” in the title is misleading, the OM is proposing Human/Human mediation. We believe therefore that our focus should be on getting the authorities, provincial and local government, to resolve their impasse about the continuation of the ABMP after December 2024.

The PBRA believes that we ratepayers need to vote “No”, to reconfirm that we need Baboon Management by OM, not mediation between residents, who have already overwhelmingly stated that they require OM to provide Baboon Management as a service.

To cast your vote, use the button below. You will be asked to provide your erf number, SA Identity number, and there is one vote allowed per erf. The Mayor undertook to provide audited results of any survey conducted by the OM.
