Removal of the Bottom Strands of Fencing along Brodie Link

SITUATION

Following universal concerns about the barbed wire fence that had been erected recently by Cape Nature, along a section of the Brodie Link Reserve bordering the Pringle Bay urban area, the Pringle Bay Ratepayers Association (PBRA) reached an agreement and finally obtained approval from Cape Nature to coordinate a community effort to remove the bottom three strands of wire along the newly erected fence.

The purpose of removing the bottom three strands of wire is to enable free movement by small wild animals in the area, safe from injury or even death from getting caught-up in the wire fencing.

EXECUTION

The PBRA will coordinate the execution of the task as follows:

Coordinator:  Carel Laubscher (0795244334)

Request for Volunteer Workers

Any able member of the community is invited to avail him/herself to join the once-off volunteer group for this task of carefully removing the wire strands on the dates as indicated.  Some areas of the fence are in uneven terrain, therefore volunteers must be physically able to work in such areas.  Volunteers are to submit names to the coordinator via Whatsapp not later than Monday 24 February and indicate their availability on one or both the scheduled dates (e.g. Tonald Drump 27, 28).  Your Whatsapp message will enable further communication to you if required.

Scheduled Dates and Times

Weather permitting, Thursday 27 and Friday 28 February from 08:00 until 11:00 are scheduled to execute the task.  If the task cannot be done at all due to unforeseen circumstances, or cannot be completed on these days, alternative, or additional scheduling of days will follow.

Starting Venue & Parking

Volunteers will meet at 08:00 sharp at the Brodie Link trail entrance gate on Clarence Rd, ready for a short briefing to coordinate the work.  Parking is limited in the area.  Volunteers are requested to limit the number of vehicles, or to park along roads in the general area and not at the gate itself.

Equipment

Volunteers must be suitably dressed with protective clothes for field work in the sun and must bring the following own equipment:  Suitable garden type gloves to work with wire, a sturdy pliers to unwind wire ties, a sturdy flat screw driver to loosen fencing staples and a water bottle if required.

Request for Sponsor/s

I humble request is directed to Pringle Bay business owners to sponsor refreshments on the days of this community driven initiative.  Please contact the coordinator as soon as possible to secure your opportunity to  provide support.  The total number of volunteers will be available on Monday 24 February, for your final planning purposes.
