November 2023
Our AGM is rapidly approaching and we look forward to seeing as many of our members there as possible. We will have a full agenda, covering important topics, such as approval in principle to move forward with the Pringle Bay Village Strategic Framework 2050 initiative.
Date: Tuesday 19th December 2023
Time: 2pm
Venue: Community Hall
The meeting Agenda, our Annual Report, Financial Report, draft Minutes of the 2022 AGM and Committee Nomination forms will be shared by December 5th.
As we did last year, we invite you to join us for snacks and something to drink after the meeting, and enjoy a chance to socialise a little.
During the past month we took another “next step” on our continuous journey of improving our website to make it a more useful tool for ourselves and a better resource for our members.
We’ve created a Members’ Area which is accessible to our members only and requires a Login. This section will include documentation that only pertains to members; the Pringle Bay Village Strategic Framework 2050 (PBVSF) project documentation is an example. As we expand this section we may consider adding the ability for members to update their personal details online, or to be able to provide their feedback on a particular initiative or activity in a structured manner.
If you don’t already have Login credentials, we need you to kindly complete the Membership Application form on the website, even if you have done so in the past, so that you can set up your Login information. At the same time, tick the appropriate boxes to indicate which communications you would like to receive from us; it is a POPI Act requirement that we have your consent to do so.
We remind our members that they are not required to be a paying member in order to be on our mailing lists. However, only paid-up members are able to stand for election to the Executive Committee and only paid-up members have the right to vote at the AGM or at special general meetings.
For any assistance navigating our website, please don’t hesitate to drop a line to secretary@pringlebayratepayers.co.za and we’ll be in touch.
A great response to our first communication sessions!
The team was thrilled with the great turnout for the 3 communication sessions held in November. It was an opportunity for us to share what was delivered in Phase 1 of the Pringle Bay Village Strategic Framework 2050 (PBVSF) initiative and to invite your questions. We enjoyed your active participation in the Q&A sessions and thank everyone who took time out to participate, demonstrating your concern for and interest in the future of Pringle Bay.
We’ve scheduled an additional communication session for those of you who were unable to make the previous sessions, and who want to be better informed about the PBVSF initiative prior to the AGM, where we will be asking for support to continue with the project in principle.
PBVSF Communication Session #4:
Date: Saturday December 9th 2023
Time: 10h00
Venue: Community Hall
(We were made aware that some people found the website registration process a bit unclear, thank you for the feedback, we listened and have made some improvements. We’ve also made the PBVSF PART 4 document available in a different format, for easier viewing on a mobile.)
To register for this communication session and to read the informative project documentation, please go to our website and follow these steps:
A printed version of the project documentation (PART 1, PART 2&3, PART 4) is available for reading upstairs at Menucha for those of you who prefer this format. For recordkeeping purposes, be so kind as to jot down your name on the page provided and please don’t remove the documents, they are copyrighted to the PBRA.
We would like to notify all residents that the Medical Emergency First Responders will NOT be available for callouts from 16 December 2023 until 3 January 2024, inclusive.
The team members have worked very hard all year and after careful consideration, they’ve decided to take a short wellbeing break, to rest and re-energize for the new year.
We thank them for everything that they do for our village residents and wish them a peaceful respite.
In a life-threatening situation, we encourage residents to activate an ambulance as soon as possible as it takes about 40 minutes for an ambulance to reach Pringle Bay. We also recommend that everyone keeps these numbers on their phones or somewhere easily accessible:
ER 24: | 084 124 |
Provincial: | 10177 |
Netcare 911: | 082 911 |
CMC ambulance service: | 066 222 7219 |
Overstrand Fire and Rescue: | 028 313 8980 |
As they do every year, the Overstrand Public Safety Forum’s annual “Show of Force” will be visiting towns in the area. Various law enforcement, fire and rescue, and security services participate in this event. These are the organisations that will be on hand to support the public during the holiday season.
They are scheduled to visit Pringle Bay on December 15th between 18h00 and 18h30. (approximate time)
You may hear some sirens blaring, but there’s no need to be concerned. Give them a wave of appreciation instead! We are grateful to these dedicated and experienced professionals and volunteers who work hard at this busy time of the year.
For extra fun on Christmas Day, have the children watch out for Father Christmas and his elves as they travel around the village in Rocky, our beloved Fire Truck.
We expect him to arrive at 9h00, so children should listen for the siren, be ready to wave, and some treats may come their way!
Starting December 1st 2023 and ending 17th January 2024, Life Guards will be on duty at the main beach from 10h00 until 17h00, every day.
Please take note of their markers which indicate the safe swimming area.
There are potentially dangerous rip currents in our bay and one needs to be cautious. Kindly bring this to the attention of your guests and visitors who may be unaware.
“Great new web site well done…”
“I feel so privileged to be able to retire in this caring town. Thanks for everything that the PBRA does – I do realise that it is not always easy. But without the PBRA this town will relapse and fall by the way side”
“We really appreciate the constructive and hard work done by the PBRA.”
(Notice from the Overstrand Municipal Manager on November 20th 2023)
“Municipality gives amnesty period for tanker requests over weekends
On 6 November 2023, Overstrand Municipality issued a notice to residents with conservancy or septic tanks that the costs for providing additional tanker services are not recovered in certain instances, depending on the number of times a tanker service is requested.
The public was notified that no pre-booking of tanker services at a specific date and time, will be allowed from said date onward. Although the Municipality would love to deliver a service on demand, it is not possible. Residents and establishments such as guesthouses are once again reminded that, where possible, at least two to three days’ lead time is required for effective sewerage tanker service.
Any tanker services requested after 15:00 or over weekends will be subject to an after-hour levy.
In a display of compassion to the community, Overstrand Municipality will not charge consumers the after-hour levy of R1 558.07 for the period between 6 November – 14 December 2023.
From the public holiday of Friday, 15 December 2023 the after-hour levy to request a tanker service will apply again.
Honey-sucker options for tanker call-outs:
Up to November 2023, sewer consumption tariffs are based on 70% of water consumption on a particular erf and the cost stayed the same for a resident with similar water consumption, regardless of how many times there were requests for tanker services.
This has changed – should your sewer consumption be more than your water consumption for more than two consecutive months, the basic monthly charge of R114,22, plus R779,03 per tanker service request would be payable.
Option 1: (Single Residential consumers)
Pay a basic fee of R114.22 plus the infrastructure levy of R14.98 per month only, with the understanding that every time a tanker service is requested, this service will be charged at R779.03 per 6kl or part thereof (office hours, i.e. weekdays before 15:00) or R1 558.07 per 6kl or part thereof (after hours) per removal.
Option 2: (Single Residential consumers)
Pay a basic fee of R169.51 plus R19.19 per kℓ of water used per month, based on a maximum of 35 kℓ per month (70% of 50 kℓ), plus the infrastructure levy of R14.98 per month, which will entitle you to tanker callouts during office hours at no additional charge, not exceeding the 70% calculation of the water consumption per month.
If your sewer consumption is more than 70% of your water consumption per month, you will be charged R779.03 per tanker service for the tanker services exceeding your 70% calculation of the water consumption.
As per option 1 above, all after hours tanker service requests, will in Option 2 also be charged at R1 558.07 per 6kl or part thereof.
All enquiries related to the amnesty period should be directed to 028 313 8000/8912, or phone:
Kleinmond Administration: Tel: 028 271 8400
Overstrand Municipality has launched the Collab Citizen App for use by individuals and businesses to log and track their service requests. Feedback so far has been positive and we encourage residents to try it for themselves next time they need to interact with Overstrand for service requirements.
